It has come to the attention of Customer Support that the installation of Netscape 8.0 will corrupt portions of Internet Explorer's XML configuration, rendering your computer unable to display web pages in There. The result is that you will see blank web pages, with the exception of a small line going down the left hand side, on any page in There.
This behavior continues even if Netscape 8.0 is uninstalled and There is reinstalled.
We are still investigating in what way Netscape 8.0 is crippling Internet Explorer, and believe this to be very poor behavior that is certainly due to a bug in Netscape 8.0.
At this time we do not recommend that Netscape 8.0 be installed on a computer that will be used to access There.
A solution has been found for computers affected by this problem:
1) Please uninstall Netscape 8.0. This step is necessary, since as long as Netscape 8.0 is installed, the problem registry entry will replicate itself even once deleted.
2) Run Regedit:
- Go to Start Menu -> 'Run...'
- Type 'regedit' in the 'Open' box and click 'OK' (do not include the quotes)
3) In the Regedit window, please click on the + signs beside the following branches in your registry tree, to navigate to the misbehaving registry key:
+ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
+ SOFTWARE
+ Microsoft
+ Internet Explorer
+ Plugins
+ Extension
4) At this point you will see in the folder view on the left side a folder named ".xml". Please right-click on this folder and choose 'Delete'.
5) Exit Regedit and reboot your system. Once your system comes back up, you will be able to use There once more.
We have reported this issue to Netscape as a bug report, and hope that this misbehavior will be repaired in upcoming versions.
