Q: What is THERE? Is it a game?
A: THERE is a whole world to explore with sights to see, people to meet, races to win, activities and events like paintball, fashion shows, card games and trivia contests and so much more. You can design and build objects in THERE, own your own neighborhood, house or clubhouse, and join clubs with others who share your interests. In short, THERE has several games to play, but it’s much, much more than just a game.
Q: Is THERE open all the time?
A: The 3D world and There Central are closed from 3:30am to 4:30am Pacific Time to perform routine maintenance and reset the servers, to make sure our members have the best experience possible.
Q: What’s “ThereCare”?
A: ThereCare is THERE’s comprehensive help guide. It contains a wealth of information, updates and tips. It’s also where THERE staff post important announcements and service status updates so it’s a good idea to check ThereCare frequently.
Q: What’s the difference between Basic Membership and Premium Membership?
A: Basic Membership includes instant access to most areas and events in-world, text chat, limited skilling activity, shopping and message board forums.
Premium Membership includes the ability to Voice Chat with your friends. With this upgrade you will also gain added functions like Explorer Pack, which includes the ability to save teleport locations and use a compass to find your way around the world. You will also benefit from the ability to host events, lead clubs, participate in the auctions, and make your own stuff for personal use and to sell to others. Lastly, Premium Membership fully opens the skill system and allows you to earn over 100 skill gifts and prizes.
Q: How much will it cost to upgrade to Premium Membership?
A: Our Premium Membership package costs a one-time fee of $9.95. Click here to upgrade now
Q: As a Basic Member, can I give Therebucks and items to other members, or receive these things from them?
A: Basic Members cannot give (or be given) items, except for ThereDocs to participate in quests and writing activities. If you’re a Basic Member, no one will be able to give stuff to you, but every once in a while they may offer to lend items to you so you can try them out temporarily.
Q: How long will my Basic Membership last?
A: Basic Memberships are lifetime memberships. You’re welcome to come back and visit as often as you like.
Q: I am a Basic Member, and seem to have stopped leveling. Will I receive any more skill gifts?
A: Basic Members can only level up to a certain point. Once you have upgraded to Premium Member status you will be able to continue leveling up and at that point you’ll begin to receive more points and gifts.
Q: A while back I signed up with a “trial” membership but decided not to join at that time. Now THERE offers free Basic Memberships. But when I try to log on with my old avatar name, it tells me that my membership has lapsed and the only way I can find to reactivate it is by paying $9.95 for Premium Membership. How can I get the free Basic Membership?
A: You can email Customer Service at billing@there.com to reactivate your expired account, or you can simply create a new one (though you’ll need to create a new avatar name).
Q: My profile indicates that I have a Blue Fun Pass. What does this mean?
A: Your Fun Pass level shows how much you have done in There – it changes color when you’ve explored, attended events, and spent time in various activities. Basic Members are limited to a Blue Level Fun Pass. Premium Members continue to progress up to Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum Fun Pass levels.
Q: How do I change my avatar’s look?
You can customize your avatar in one of the spas. When you hop into a spa, you can move the sliders to change the look of your avatar’s body. Click here for a full list of spa locations. Click here for more information about changing avatar looks.
Q: How do I meet people in THERE?
A: THERE is one of the friendliest communities online, so don’t be shy. You can just type right in the client window to begin chatting. Your chat will appear in a bubble over your head. When you begin chatting you’ll automatically join a chat group. Another great way to meet people is to join a club. You can find a list of clubs here.
Q: How many clubs can I join?
New members at the Blue Fun Pass level can join up to 50 clubs. Once you’ve leveled up to a Bronze Fun Pass or above, you can join up to 100 clubs.
Q: How can I view someone’s profile?
A: When you’re in-world simply click any avatar’s nametag and choose “View Profile.” Or you can visit the People page and search by avatar name.
Q: How can I edit my own profile?
A: When you’re in-world, click your own nametag and choose “View Profile.” The profile fields will automatically load, ready for editing. You can also access your profile by clicking on your screen name at the top of There Central.
Q: How many buddies can I add to my buddy list?
A: You can have a maximum of 500 buddies on your buddy list.
Q: Someone’s bugging me. What can I do?
A: You can put them on your Ignore list by clicking their nametag and choosing “Ignore.” Once they’ve been ignored they will no longer be able to speak to you, IM, email, or communicate with you in There. If a conversation makes you uncomfortable for any reason, you can always teleport immediately to another location or simply log off. You can report serious griefing incidents to abuse@there.com
Q: What types of events does There offer?
A: There events range from racing and paintball to fashion shows and quests. There’s always something fun happening. Click here to see what’s happening now.
Q: Can I host my own events?
A: Premium Members who have a Bronze level Fun Pass or higher may host their own events. Our event scheduling system makes it easy to set up your own events and invite your friends. Click here for more information about event hosting.
Q: I want to build a racetrack and host a racing event but I don’t have enough Therebucks to buy a builder kit. Can I build a track for free?
A: You can build a racetrack at a FunZone at no cost, using the pieces built into the race kit at the racetrack FunZones. There are many zones available for racing events. Click here to search for a FunZone.
Q. How do I know where to go in THERE?
A. Where you go is up to you! You can explore, visit friends, or take a tour offered by a Greeter or one of the members that welcome newcomers to There. You can look at the map for preset teleport locations, and, if you’re a Premium Member, you can set personal teleport locations (aka “Favorite Places”) for places you want to visit again.
Q: I see some people have their own neighborhoods, houses and clubhouses in There. How can I get a place of my own?
A: PAZ and Lot structures are available from There’s Shop Central. Once you have a PAZ or Lot, choose where you’d like to place it in There. Make sure the place you’ve selected allows dropping and make sure you have enough Therebucks to pay the monthly rent! Click here to read more about Real Estate in There.
Q: What’s a PAZ?
A: “PAZ” stands for “PortaZone” or “portable zone.” You can purchase a PAZ in Shop Central and place it in-world where PortaZones are allowed. Once you’ve placed your PAZ, you can fill it with objects that you have purchased with Therebucks, such as furniture and buildings. PortaZones charge rent when they are placed. Our community members use them for everything from impromptu picnics to building structures in the sky.
Q: Why do we have to buy houses and also pay rent?
A: If you are able to find an unoccupied house you are not asked to pay more than the rent. Supply and demand of houses in There has created a real estate market where members are able to buy and sell from one another at a potential profit. After you own the deed to the property, your rent is automatically deducted from your account.
Q: How can I change my avatar’s clothes?
A: There are two shopping options available in There. First, Shop Central, which contains “There Brand” items created by us. Second, the developer Auctions which contain items created by our members. Between the two, you’ll have plenty of ways to make your avatar a unique reflection of your personality. Both Shop Central and Auction items can be purchased with Therebucks.
Q: What else can I buy besides clothes?
A: Lots of stuff! Shop Central and the Auctions offer everything from buggies and other vehicles to home and garden items that can be used to decorate your home in There.
Q: Can I return items that I’ve bought?
A: Any item in your My Things menu can be returned. From the My Things menu (located on the menu bar along the bottom of your screen), mouse over the item you wish to return and click Return.
Q: I returned my items for Therebucks. How do I get them back?
A: Once you have sold something, it’s gone - it’s not possible to reclaim it. However, if the item is still available you can always purchase a new one.
Q: Why do people keep lending me stuff?
A: There is a very friendly community and many members love to share some of their favorite things with new members. It’s not uncommon for people to lend items like hoverboards and buggies (clothes are not lend-able). When someone lends you an item it will not cost you anything and you can return it at any time. So enjoy the good will and friendliness of other members and we hope you’ll return the kindness by lending some of your own items to others.
Q: What are Therebucks?
A: Therebucks are the currency used in There to buy things like virtual clothing for your avatar and furniture for your There home.
Q: How do I buy Therebucks?
A: You can buy Therebucks with a credit card, PayPal, or you can send a check or money order by mail. Click here to purchase Therebucks now.
Q: Can I buy Therebucks without upgrading to Premium Membership?
A: Yes, you can buy Therebucks and shop for clothes and other items without the Premium upgrade.
Q: What is Voice Chat?
A: Voice Chat uses Voice Over IP technology (VOIP) to let you talk with others in There using a microphone. Some people prefer to use Voice Chat instead of typing, although you are welcome to use either one or both.
Q: How can I use the Voice Chat feature?
A: Voice Chat is part of the Premium Membership package. Click here to learn more about setting up Voice Chat.
Q: How can I tell if someone is using Voice Chat?
A: Avatars with Voice Chat have a small speaker icon in their nametags. You’ll know they are currently using Voice Chat when the avatar appears to be speaking and a small “lightning bolt” appears over their head.
Q: I don’t have a microphone but I have speakers. Can I get a Premium Membership half price if I want to hear people but not talk?
A: No, you will need to purchase the full Premium Membership to use Voice Chat.
