Submissions Guidelines, Inappropriate Items

Hi All!

Jack recently posted a reply to a thread in the Rants & Raves section. His post specifically addressed the issue of inconsistencies in approvals, specifically with submissions that are considered inappropriate. As this is a subject that is relevant, particularly for Developers, it is being reposted in ThereCare.

Regards,

- Sonny, There Product Submissions

======================

I recognize some of our recent submissions rejections have been somewhat inconsistent with previous approvals. I should have communicated more proactively related to this change, my apologies. Please allow me to explain…

Our previous MAB, Fall 2004, originally brought the issue of potentially inappropriate items in-world to our attention for review – this issue had been raised by the community-at-large, so they brought to us for discussion and review. We reviewed some of the items that had been specifically referenced by the community and determined they were not, and would not be, appropriate – we work to provide and protect a PG-13 experience, it’s part of our brand identity. As such, we made the decision to tighten our approval policy related to potentially inappropriate submissions.

We will no longer allow items we deem to be strongly, overtly or conspicuously, suggestive - most related to sexual or violent content. Most specifically, this relates to innuendo or double entendres.

As a result of this change in practice, we did go back and remove some of the items we deemed to be most conspicuously inappropriate. We did not remove all items that may have been rejected given this new practice as this is a change from our previous practice (again, we only removed those as outlined above) and it is incredibly difficult to remove items that are already in-world.

We understand the subjectivity of this practice and we will continue to do our best in the interest of our community.

In the future, we do plan to offer private places which will allow members to set the governing rules.

Again, I realize this is a change from our previous position and related approvals, and apologize for the lack of communication. If you had an item rejected given this new practice, and did not receive a full refund of the submission price, please email productsubmissions@thereinc.com and we will address immediately. Moving forward, we will limit the refunds to 90% of the submissions fee, which is consistent with current practice.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

Jack Leidlein
