Houses and Zones: FrontierZones

Looking for a wide-open space to set up your virtual home or business? Check out the FrontierZones located on the Tiki Islands. FrontierZones are like FunZones, but on a smaller scale. The shape of a FrontierZone is round and defined by boulders along the perimeter.  FrontierZones have Zone Permissions, Event Hosting Privileges, Ignore Capabilities, and Weather and Environment settings.
FrontierZones have an associated Real Estate Deed. Upon purchase or transfer of a deed the FrontierZone is automatically transferred to your My Things menu located on your toolbar. The deed shows ownership of the Zone. The Zone owner can Auction, Give, Trade and Configure the Zone. Monthly rent is charged to the deed holder every 30-days.

To rent a FrontierZone, you need to acquire the property’s
Real Estate Deed. There are a few different ways to do this:

  1. Rent a property through the housing listings on the Places Search page.
  2. Rent a property through the Auction listings.
  3. You can acquire a deed through a Give or Trade transaction with another member. Rental periods are NOT reset when FrontierZone deeds are transferred between members. Depending on when the rent was last paid, you could have up to 30 days before the next rental cycle begins. You can acquire a deed through a Give or Trade transaction with another member. The 30-day rental fee does not reset on Zones transferred between members. You will need to have enough tbucks to cover the cost of the deed as well as the first rental period. When the deed is transferred to another member there is a remaining number of days on the 30-day rental cycle. At the time of transfer there could be 1 – 29 days left of remaining rent.
  4. Visit a FrontierZone in-world and click on the For Rent sign in the front yard. Once inside, if it feels like home, on your toolbar click This Place>Info about “For Rent”.  The FrontierZone Page will appear. Click Rent It to begin the rental process.
There is a limited supply of FrontierZones available in-world. One might not always be available. Check the Real Estate Deed Auctions regularly for FrontierZones listed by members.

Once you have acquired a Real Estate Deed for a FrontierZone you can change the Zone Details and Permissions.

On your toolbar go to This Place > Information About (Your Zone)

The Zone Configuration Page will pop up. On this page you can change the Details and Permissions of your Zone.

Zone Permissions Tab - Third Party Event Hosting

• Allow or restrict Third Party Event Hosting

Please note, if you allow other members to host third-party events in your Zone they will have the right to drop any item they wish. They will also be able to remove items within the Zone disrupting your layout. If you do not want others to have the ability to decorate in your Zone, it’s best to turn the third-party event options off. If you want to allow a select number of trusted members to run events and help decorate your Zone, you can select Only members I select may host and enter the names of these members.

Now for the fun part! Now that you’ve gone through the process of purchasing and setting up your FrontierZone, you can decorate the Zone with items from Shop Central and the Auctions. There are hundreds of items to choose from in Shop Central and Auctions. The possibilities are endless for a number of themes. A great place to start is the “Home and Garden” section. This section contains everything from custom designer homes to trees and plants to furniture.

There FrontierZones have a drop count of 50 items. There keeps track of your drop count automatically. To check how many drops you have left at any given time, visit your Zone and go to your Menu Bar > This Place > Gear. The amount of remaining drops will be displayed in the Gear menu.

There’s Zone decorating tools let you find just the right place to place your items. The Take One Out command allows you to view the item and move it around to get a good idea of what it will look like in the space before you actually place or “drop” the item.

To Take One Out in your FrontierZone go to your Menu Bar and click:

This Place > Gear > Sub-Category > (Item Name) > Take One Out

When you have positioned your item just where you want it, you can “drop” in place by moving your mouse cursor over the decorating tag and click Place Here.

It might take a few tries to find the right location for you item. Try dropping the item and then stand back to look at it to see if you like its position.

Sometimes due to a FrontierZone’s terrain, the object you are trying drop (for example a house) may include the terrain inside. In order to “remove” the terrain from inside of your house, you will need to raise the house above the terrain. If you have already dropped the item and need to change the position you must Pick Up the item to make necessary changes.

Go to your tool bar and click: This Place > Gear > Structures > (Item Name) > Pick Up

Once the item has been picked up you can raise and lower the item with the (+) and (-) key on your desktop’s numerical keypad. To raise the item click “ +”. To lower the item click “-“.On a laptop hold the blue text “Fn” key down while pressing the blue text “+” key aka “?” key to budge the object up. Hold the blue text “Fn” key down while pressing the blue text “-“ aka “ ;” key. You can adjust the positioning with these small “nudges” until you’re satisfied with its location. When you’ve got the item exactly where you want it, click Place Here.

You can Put Away an item after you have dropped it and replace it into your inventory. Go to your Menu Bar and click: This Place > Gear > Structures > (Item) > Pick Up > Put Away

Repeat the easy drop process for all items you would like to include in your FrontierZone. During the decorating phase it is best to keep the Decorating Tags turned on so that you can move or remove items at will. To turn the Decorating Tags on go to your Menu Bar and click: This Place > Show Decorate Tags

Layout Options gives you the freedom to save and drop your placed items easily. Go to your Menu Bar and click:

This Place > Layout Option

♦ Clear Layout allows you to remove all dropped objects in your FrontierZone all at once. A pop-up menu will ask you to verify if you want to clear the entire layout of your Zone.

♦ Freeze Layout lets you freeze (save) items in a particular spot. For example if you have an item hovering in the air, you can choose the Freeze option to save it in that location.
