Development Lot Setup Manual
Introduction
So you’re interested in renting a Development Lot! Or perhaps you’re already a Development Lot owner and want to learn more about how to customize your Lot. In either case, this document offers a single resource for helpful step-by-step instructions and tips for everything you’ll need to know to get up and running with a Development Lot in There.
The Basics
First, let’s start with a basic overview of how Development Lots work in There. Development Lots are only available to rent within
Development Zones.
Unlike Neighborhood Lots, you cannot purchase a Development Lot to keep in your inventory – instead you must find a pre-placed Lot within an established Development Zone.
After you’ve rented a Development Lot, you w
ill not have the ability to pick up the Lot or take it with you. The Development Lot is completely stationary. In a Development Zone the owner of the Zone is the only person who can drop, pick up and move Development Lots.
This gives the Development Owner more control over the layout of the Zone.
Development Lots provide a financial advantage over Neighborhood Lots because the Lot renter does not have to pay the initial cost to purchase the Lot. The Development Zone Owner pays for the initial cost of the Lot. The Development Lot tenant only has to pay for the monthly rent on the Lot.
Development Lots have the same Permissions and Event Capabilities as Neighborhood Lots. The Lot renter can change the environment, weather, description, entry and activities permissions, and control the maximum capacity of the Development Lot.
Each Development Zone has a club associated with it, which provides tenants with club email, club forums and transfer fund capabilities.
All tenants who wish to rent Lots in a Development must first join the Development Club.

Rent A Development Lot
There are two ways to rent a Development Lot:
1. Development Lots are listed in Auctions. On your toolbar go to
Shop>Auctions>Neighborhoods>There Neighborhood Lots.
Development Lots are categorized under Neighborhoods. Do not let the categorization confuse you. Development Lots and Neighborhood Lots are two separate Real Estate products in There.
2. Walk into a Development Zone and find an available Lot to rent.
Within an available Lot, click This Place>Rent It.
Find a Development Zone
Development Zones are owned and operated by There Staff. You can search for a Development Zone under the Neighborhood tab on the Places Search Page. Look for
There Neighborhood Zone to the right hand side of the yellow Zone title bar. Do not be confused that the Development Zone is titled There Neighborhood Zone. Development Zones and Neighborhood Zones are two separate products.
Here is a list of Development Zones currently in There:

Changing Your Development Lot Settings
The Lot renter can change or update the Development Lot Details, Permissions, Weather and Environment at any time.
The Development Lot Description and Permissions can be changed by going to the Menu Bar, choose
This Place> Info about “Your” Lot
In the description tab, you can change the name of the Lot, add a brief description of your Lot under “sign for your place”.
Please note on the Lot Details Page Description tab, the third entry listed, as Sign for your place is NOT an actual 3-D sign that will be placed in your Development Lot. This is a description of your Lot that members will view by clicking on the This Place button on the Menu Bar when they enter your Development Lot.
You can extend your Development Lot rent. Extend Rental>Rent It>I Agree
You can change the Environment Override to New Dawn, High Noon, Romantic Sunset, or Moonlit Night. You can change the Weather Override to Rain, Summer Showers, Snow, Powder Snow or Thunderstorm.
Check the Megaphone Box if you would like your Lot Zone to display a group IM window. Remember to click Update to save any changes you have made.
Click the Permissions tab to change your Permissions. On this page you can:
♦ Control who can enter your Lot ♦ Set the activities permitted in your Lot ♦ Change the capacity level (number of avatars who can enter) ♦ Allow or restrict Third Party Event hosting
Please note, if you allow other members to host third-party events in your Lot they will have the right to drop any item they wish. They will also be able to remove items within the Development Lot. If you do not want others to have the ability to decorate in your Lot, it’s best to turn the third-party event options off. If you want to allow a select number of trusted members to run events and help decorate your Lot, you can select Only members I select may host and enter the names of these members.
Decorating Your Development Lot
Now for the fun part! Now that you’ve gone through the process of purchasing and setting up your Development Lot, you can decorate the Lot with items from Shop Central and the Auctions. Some Development Zones like to stick to a specific creative theme. Take a look around the Development and see how other Development Members have decorated their own Lots.
Drop Limits
Because Development Zones and Development Lots have a drop count limit, it is a good idea to budget the amount of items you drop in your Development Lot. For example, you can purchase a refrigerator (1 drop), a stove (1 drop), and kitchen cabinets (1 drop), which would add up to an amount of 3 drops. Some developers offer “1-drop” sets to help with drop budgeting, so you can purchase a “1-drop kitchen set” that contains all 3 items, saving yourself 2 drops. The drops you save can be used to furnish your home with additional ornaments or knick-knacks.
There keeps track of your drop count automatically. To check how many drops you have left at any given time, visit your Zone and go to your Menu Bar > This Place > Gear. The amount of remaining drops will be displayed in the Gear menu.
Placing Items in Your Lot
There’s Lot decorating tools let you find just the right place to place your items. The Take One Out command allows you to view the item and move it around to get a good idea of what it will look like in the space before you actually place or “drop” the item.
To Take One Out in your Lot go to your Menu Bar and click:
This Place > Gear > Object Category > (Item Name) > Take One Out When you have positioned your item just where you want it, you can “drop” in place by moving your mouse cursor over the decorating action tag and click Place Here.
It might take a few tries to find the right location for you item. Try dropping the item and then stand back to look at it to see if you like its position.
Sometimes due to a Development Zone’s terrain, the object you are trying to drop (for example a house) may include the terrain inside. In order to “remove” the terrain from inside of your house, you will need to raise the house above the terrain. If you have already dropped the item and need to change the position you must Pick Up the item to make necessary changes.
Go to your tool bar and click: This Place > Gear > Structures > (Item Name) > Pick Up Once the item has been picked up you can raise and lower the item with the (+) and (-) key on your desktop’s numerical keypad. To raise the item click +. To lower the item click -. On a laptop hold the blue text “Fn” key down while pressing the blue text “+” key aka “?” key to budge the object up. Hold the blue text “Fn” key down while pressing the blue text “-“ aka “ ;” key. You can adjust the positioning with these small “nudges” until you’re satisfied with its location. When you’ve got the item exactly where you want it, click Place Here.
Removing Items from Your Lot
You can Put Away an item after you have dropped it and replace it into your inventory. Go to your Menu Bar and click: This Place > Gear > Item > Pick Up > Put Away Repeat the easy drop process for all items you would like to include in your Development Lot. During the decorating phase it is best to keep the Decorating Tags turned on so that you can move or remove items at will. To turn the Decorating Tags on go to your Menu Bar and click: This Place > Show Decorate Tags
Layout Options gives you the freedom to save and drop your placed items easily. Go to your Menu Bar and click: This Place > Layout Option
♦ Clear Layout allows you to remove all dropped objects in your Development Lot all at once. A pop up menu will ask you to verify if you want to clear the entire layout of your Zone. ♦ Freeze Layout lets you freeze (save) items in a particular spot. For example if you have an item hovering in the air, you can choose the Freeze option to save it in that location.
♦ Remove Foreign Object allows you to remove items such as scrolls or books left in your Development Lot by other members.
♦ Set Entry Point lets you set the exact location avatars will teleport into your Development Lot.
♦ Save Layout gives you the option to save the position of dropped items in your Development Lot. You are allowed 50 empty saved options, which you will need to rename.
♦ Load Layout allows you to choose from your saved options. A pop up menu will ask you if you would like to load pieces to their original locations or to a position relative to where you are standing. The existing layout will be cleared if you choose one of the two options.

In order to send email to Development Members go to your Profile Tag>Click specific Development link>Members. The Group Member List allows you to send email to individual members.
To let non-residents know about your event, you can list it or post an announcement in the Advertisements and Announcements section of There Forums.
We can help you get the word out about your event! To let us know about your upcoming event, invite the avatar There_Events and we’ll consider it for future placement in the “There Fun Times” newsletter.
Removing Troublemakers from Your Lot
Unfortunately sometimes troublemakers also known as “griefers” may show up to disrupt an event. The good news is that there is a quick and easy way to remove them from your Lot.
Control who can enter your Lot

If you wish to move out of the Development Zone you will need to Relinquish your Lot in the Development Zone.
On the Menu Bar go to This Place>Info about “Your” Lot>Relinquish>Yes
Please note that when you Relinquish your Lot or quit the Development Club the remainder of the rent left on the 30-day rental cycle will automatically transfer to the Development Owner. You will not receive a refund or credit.
Eviction
At any time with or without notice the Development Owner can Evict you from the Development Lot. There are two ways a Development Owner can Evict your Lot. The Development Owner can walk into your Lot and click Evict which will remove the individual Lot, or the Development Owner can remove you from the Development Club which will evict multiple Lots from the Development Zone. If a Development Owner evicts you the remainder of the 30-day Lot rental cycle will be pro-rated and credited to your account.
If you cannot afford to cover the cost of rent the Lot will be repossessed by the Development Zone owner, and can be rented by another member of the Development Club.
