All software firewalls will need to be reconfigured to allow There access after the update is installed.

Software firewalls, like Norton Internet Security, Zonealarm, and McAfee Firewall among others, control access to the internet on a per-application basis. This means that they keep a running record of what programs are allowed to use the Internet and prevent unauthorized programs from accessing the Internet.

An additional security check prevents programs which have changed to access the Internet. This prevents viral-infected programs that were previously authorized from having free reign. But, many software firewalls will not ask for permission to allow a changed program to have access - They will simply block it, silently and without error.

This may cause several issues:

1) The There window showing 'Action Cancelled' after logging in.
2) Unusual lag or slow loading of avatars that was not present before the update was installed.
3) Inability to make your avatar walk forward - He or She snaps back to his or her original position
4) An error page containing the text "Sorry, it appears as though you are experiencing trouble logging into There. Here are 3 simple things you can do to try and fix the problem..." appears in the There window after logging in.

There may be other symptoms, but these are the most prominent ones.

When the update patch was applied, There.exe changed. Therefore, it was no longer the same program that was authorized to access the Internet.

(Please note that this will also if you use the "Full" installer instead of the "Updater". Either way, There.exe ends up changed from the file your firewall expects to be there.)

To ensure that There.exe has full access to the Internet after the update is applied,  please go into your firewall's control panel and delete the rule that says "There.exe is allowed to access the Internet", and then re-create it.

You should contact the technical support group of the company who makes your firewall for assistance with doing this.

Once it is done, you will have a better experience in There as the firewall will allow There to better communicate with our servers.
