As we announced earlier this summer, we have started a major operating system and database upgrade for There.com. This process involves migrating all of our AvMan ("Avatar Manager") servers to the new system. We can complete the work on most of the AvMan servers without entirely shutting down the service. Usually, we will just need to bring down specific servers.

On Wednesday night, August 27th, we will begin work on AvMan 6 at approximately 10 PM Pacific time.

AvMan 6 does contain avatar data and product data. As a result, this will have an impact on some members. AvMan 6 will be offline during the maintenance period, so if your avatar's home is on this server, you will be unable to log in.

It is also possible that other members whose avatars do not live on AvMan 6 will be affected. For example, if you have inventory items that live on this server, you will be unable to access them during this period. (Note: there is no way for us to be able to tell you where your specific items are located on our servers. If you find that you are unable to use something in your inventory during this time, the maintenance on AvMan 6 is the most likely cause.)

The migration of AvMan 6 will take longer than our previous migrations because there is more data involved. Only this server will be taken offline, but we will restart the whole system if the work is completed before 3am Pacific.
