Each house and FunZone in There has a deed associated with it; so any time you rent a house or FunZone in There, you will automatically get a deed. What is a deed? Although a deed generally shows ownership of something, in this case, deeds show who has the right to rent a piece of property (or a house) in There. You could say it's kind of like a lease in real life.

Here's how they work:

• Anytime you rent property through the listings or from in-world signs, you automatically get a deed.
• You'll also get a deed if you get a property through an auction, or if another member gives you his/her property, or if you get the property through a trade.
• Whoever owns the deed is the "primary renter" and must pay all rental fees for that house or zone.
• Rental periods are not reset when deeds are transferred. So, if a deed's previous owner already paid rent on the property, you might not have to pay rent right away. Depending on when the rent was last paid, you could have up to a whole rental period (30 days) to one day before you have to start paying rent.
• Once you rent a property, your deed will appear in your MyThings menu. In MyThings, your deed has the following information and actions:
  • Property name
  • Configure: Selecting this launches the property's Description page; you can name your home or zone, add an event, change permissions or visit the property from this page.
  • Auction: Using your deed, you can list your home or zone in Auctions from this tab.
  • Give: Allows you to give your house or zone to another member.
  • Trade: Allows you to trade your house or zone with another member.

(Note: You cannot auction, give or trade clubhouses, because they have their own rental rules. Only club leaders can rent clubhouses, so it would be too costly to check if potential renters are club leaders each time.)
